MSU has a campus-wide license for Mathematica, a computing environment that helps with organizing algorithmic, visualization and other user interface capabilities within an easy to use interface.

Students, faculty and staff to download the software directly from the Wolfram site at no additional cost. Use of the software license is valid solely for support of instruction and academic research.

See the links below for download instructions and other information.

Mathematica is a software package which is ideal for communicating scientific ideas, whether this is visualization of a concept in an intro-level course, or creating a simulation of a new idea related to research.  Mathematica provides cross-platform support for a wide range of tasks such as giving computationally interactive presentations, a multifaceted language for data integration, graphics editing, and symbolic user interface construction.

Mathematica is used in virtually all of the world’s top universities and colleges, and is commonly used in the following types of departments: Mathematical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Business and Finance, Life Sciences, Engineering, and Computer Science.

This product is available for Windows, Mac and Linux/Unix.

Faculty, staff and students may download the software on university-owned machines and/or personally owned devices.

Existing MSU Mathematica users will be automatically upgraded to the new version when it is released and can access and download it by logging into their account on the Wolfram User Portal.

Mathematica 13.1 Upgrade and Activation Change

There's an important change to the process for activating Mathematica when you upgrade to Version 13.1 through your organization's site license.

When you install Mathematica 13.1, it will prompt you to re-activate. Click "Activate through your organization (SSO)" and use your organization's login instead of the Wolfram ID (Wolfram-specific login) and activation key you have used in the past.

The first time you go through this process, you will be asked to link your organization's login to your existing Wolfram ID and password. Going forward, you will simply use your organization's login to upgrade.

Staff who have received a Mathematica home-use license will be contacted by email with instructions on how to get the upgrade.

To obtain a staff home-use license please visit our How to dowload Mathematica and see the Home Use License section.
