women of Delta Gamma

Delta Gamma was founded in 1873 in Oxford, Mississippi, at the Lewis School for Girls by three young women who were unable to go home for the Christmas break. Together, Anna Boyd, Mary Comfort and Eva Webb created a “club of mutual helpfulness.”

They chose the Greek letters Delta and Gamma because of their desire to “Do Good.” It remains Delta Gamma’s motto today and a driving force in all we do.

What started with three women has since grown into an international Fraternity with more than 250,000 members in 151 collegiate chapters and more than 200 alumnae groups. Delta Gamma’s sisterhood continues to inspire women through the values that were built into our very first Constitution. Article II, written by our Founders in 1873, states: The objects of this Fraternity shall be to foster high ideals of friendship among women, to promote their educational and cultural interests, to create in them a true sense of social responsibility, and to develop in them the best qualities of character.

Chapter Update

Delta Gamma continues to see steady growth in membership, with several new members joining this semester. The sorority's sisterhood continues to thrive. We remain actively involved in community service projects, including volunteering at local shelters and fundraising for our philanthropy, Service for Sight. January we were able to donate a bunch of dog toys we made out of t-shirts, to give to Montana Association of the Blind's guide dogs. We also have our philanthropy week (we call it Anchor Week) coming up in April where all proceeds will be going to Service for Sight. This is a week-long friendly competition between other chapters on campus to participate in, to show their support to our chapter and philanthropy.
Sisters of Delta Gamma are excelling academically, with many achieving high grades and participating in various academic initiatives on campus. The sorority recently hosted a few successful sisterhoods, strengthening bonds among members and creating lasting memories. Plans are underway for upcoming social events, we have our founders day coming up in April, where we will be celebrating 150 years of Delta Gamma Fraternity and 75 years of the Gamma Delta Chapter here at Montana State. April is going to be a big month as we also have initiation. We're thrilled to welcome and initiate new members into Delta Gamma, fostering lifelong bonds and empowering them to thrive!
