Peer Advisor and Mentor Program Application
Goals of the program:
- Offer more opportunities for current and alumni students to get general questions about classes and pre-reqs answered.
- Offer leadership and mentoring opportunities for students.
- Create a pathway for students to interact more frequently with HPA.
- Create a warm, inviting, and inclusive environment for all pre-health students at MSU.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Peer advisor weekly time commitment:
- 4 hours total
- 1-hour weekly group meeting
- 3 hours of weekly office hours in Culbertson 324 (HPA Peer Advising Center)
- Answer general student questions (classes, pre-reqs, MSU student support) during weekly office hours, take notes or pass along messages to Director of HPA.
- Participate in weekly group meetings about having discussions with peer students, how learning occurs, MSU support resources, diversity and inclusion, mentoring, and other training opportunities.
- Have an open mind, willingness to grow, and an interest in learning about and helping their peers.
- 4 hours total
- Peer mentor weekly time commitment:
- 1-2 hours total
- 2 hour initial term meeting
- Meetings (in-person or online), phone, text, and e-mails with mentee
- Answer general student questions (classes, pre-reqs, MSU student support, share experineces)
- Have an open mind, willingness to grow, and an interest in learning about and helping their peers.
- 1-2 hours total
Background and Eligibility:
- Junior, Senior, or alumni pre-health student at MSU
- Ability to commit required hours per week
- Open mind, willingness to grow, and interest in learning about and helping peers.
Application due dates:
Peer Advisor applications are due by May 30th for a fall semester start.
Peer Mentor applications are due by November 1st for a spring semester start.
