Microbiology: Environmental Health – B.S. in Microbiology, Environmental Health Option
Microbiology is a diverse discipline that has become an umbrella term for a variety of studies, including bacteriology, mycology, protozoology, phycology, parasitology and virology. In the Environmental Health program at Montana State, students are able to delve into the study of medical microbiology, virology, immunology and molecular biology in order to prepare for careers in the public health sector.
The Microbiology major at Montana State offers five additional Options Within the Major: General Microbiology, Pre-Medicine, Pre-Veterinary, Environmental Health and Medical Laboratory Science.
Students in the Environmental Program produce award-winning research, such as Lexi Kyro 21’s work on risk assessment of home well water quality data, carried out in collaboration with the Crow Environmental Health Steering Committee, as part of a long-term project that first started in 2005. Kyro’s work won the Association of Environmental Health Academic Programs competition in 2021.
