Graduate Program News - Spring 2022

Writing Center Grad Program News

The MSU Writing Center is here to help your students navigate their writing process and hone their skills as academics and professionals. We are excited to offer multiple modes of support this semester—please forward this on to any students who might be interested.

  • One-on-one appointments with a peer tutor. Tutoring sessions allow students to discuss ideas and hear how an engaged, outside reader understands the concepts being presented.
  • Writing Groups are a space for students to come together to discuss writing and the writing process with the guidance of an experienced peer tutor. Participants practice both giving and receiving feedback on academic writing.
  • A writing retreat or Focus Friday allows students to dedicate time to write. Students can ask questions of the writing center staff and meet other students who are also working on graduate writing.
  • The Science Writing Workshop uses Joshua Schimel’s book “Writing Science” to discuss how scientists use story structure sentence-level choices to invigorate their writing.
  • The workshops on responding to student writing and assessing multilingual students' writing are both designed to help TAs feel more confident in their role as evaluator of student work.

Please contact me if you have any questions or would like to know more about the programs we have in place to help graduate writers.

All the best,
