Summer Edge

Summer school is a great way to stay connected and progress toward your degree. MSU is offering nonresident students the chance to take courses over the summer and receive a discount of over $1,000 for each three-credit course. The discount is available for both graduate and undergraduate nonresident students.*

Frequently Asked Questions

Tuition for a three-credit class is the normal tuition price for nonresident students minus the discount amount, which is just over $1,000 for a three-credit class. The discount does not include a discount on fees. Check out the tuition and fees section for more information on costs.

The Summer Edge tuition discount cannot be combined with any other tuition waiver or nonresident discounted tuition/scholarships you may already be receiving. Yes. Both in-person and online courses are available.

Class start and end dates vary, with most start dates in May, June, and July. Classes are offered in the 4x4, 6- and 12-week formats. Check out the summer calendar for specific dates.

Summer online courses receive a reduced distance delivery fee, but otherwise there are no discounts on fees. View the costs page to get an estimate on fees. Please note, some courses and/or programs also require materials or special use fees and fees based on delivery method. 

The discount is for nonresident students only and will be applied through the financial aid office as a fee waiver. You must confirm your bill in MyInfo in order for the waiver to be applied. Do not worry if you don’t see it right away. The process will take a day or two to appear.

This tuition discount cannot be combined with any other nonresident discounted tuition/scholarships you may be receiving (including WUE, Achievement Awards, graduate waivers or any other tuition waiver). This discount is not valid for fully online programs at MSU, WWAMI, MSU’s accelerated B.S.N. program, or Gallatin College courses. Any scholarships you were offered as a nonresident freshman for fall 2023 will not be in effect until classes begin for fall semester 2023.

Student Advising Commons is available to help. In person and virtual appointments are available. You can also email or schedule an appointment with your advisor using the navMSU smartphone app.

Refunds will be processed once the credits have been applied to students’ accounts. We encourage you to apply for Direct Deposit in QuikPay for a faster refund.

Wait for a new bill, pay, and get the refund. Or, self-calculate the deduction and pay that. Electronic statements will be sent as soon as the discounts are applied to students’ accounts. In the meantime you are welcome to make a payment of any amount. Late fees will not be charged.

The normal tuition and fees will be assessed immediately when students register. The discount will be applied later.
