Native American Offices & Departments

American Indian/ Alaska Native Student Success Services (AIANSSS)

AIANSSS offers a range of services such as mental health support, access to emergency/personal phone usage, computer facilities for printing, copying, and faxing, emergency loans, tutoring, and some academic advising.

AIANSS also helps students network with various American Indian student organizations and connect to other campus resources, community, and supporters.

Empower Program

The Empower Program fosters the inclusion and success of underrepresented minorities and women in engineering and other fields of STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) at MSU.

The Empower program provides a variety of support to all underrepresented students in STEM programs across campus.

Center for Bilingual and Multicultural Education (CBME)

The goal of the CBME is to be a central educational resource for researchers, educators, students/faculty, and the community as a whole. 

The CBME has continued to thrive due to the years of research and community engagement, primarily with local Native American tribes and Native students.

 

Center for American Indian and Rural Health Equity (CAIRHE)

CAIRHE's mission is to reduce significant health disparities in Native and rural communities through community-based participatory research (CBPR) that is considerate of and consistent with their cultural beliefs.

Using proven CBPR methods, the Center and its investigators conduct groundbreaking health equity research and interventions that make a profound, sustainable difference in the lives of Montanans.

IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE)

The IDeA Program aims to support researchers at institutions with historically low NIH grant success rates and target underserved populations in participating states.

INBRE grants enhance biomedical research capacity and provide resources for promising students in eligible states.

Caring for Our Own Program (CO-OP)

The Caring for Our Own Program (CO-OP) is a supplemental student support program for Native American and Alaska Native nursing students at Montana State University.

CO-OP’s goals include boosting enrollment of Indigenous nursing students and cultivating a skilled workforce of Indigenous nurses ready to practive, serve, and lead in Indian Country.

 

Department of Native American Studies (NAS)

The Department of Native American Studies was established to provide and advance quality education for and about American Indians of Montana, the region, and the nation.

In fulfilling this mission, the Department is committed to meeting the changing needs of Montana's Indian tribes and all Montana citizens through excellence in teaching, research, and service.

TRiO Student Support Services (TRiO SSS)

The TRIO Student Support Service program at MSU - Bozeman is committed to increasing the rates of academic achievement, retention, and graduation among historically underrepresented students.

This is accomplished by providing holistic and individualized support services that maximize students' abilities and utlize resources both within and beyond the University to benefit students, families, and the larger community.

Office of Institutional Equity (OIE)

The Office of Institutional Equity prioritizes excellence in teaching and learning for students and fosters an inclusive workplace for staff and faculty.

They promote awareness, education, and training to encourage individual responsibility in accepting and recognizing all persons regardless of cultural or ethnic backgrounds.
