Tuition Waivers

Montana American Indian Waiver (Resident):
A. Must have a completed FAFSA that shows the students has eligibility for need based aid (does not have to be grant eligible).
B. Show documentation of one quarter or higher blood quantum for a non-Montana Tribe (waiver is not limited to Montana Tribes), or if member of a Montana Tribe submit Tribal Membership (does not have to be one quarter blood but does have to be a member of a Montana Tribe).
C. Must be a Montana Resident.
D. Application is required for first time applicants of the waiver.
The Montana American Indian Waiver covers tuition only and it prorates according to the students' credit load. The students must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress with financial aid to be eligible. The award is available to for undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, certificate, and Gallatin College students and graduate students.
Tribal Homeland Scholarship Waiver (Non-Resident):
A. Must have a completed FAFSA.
B. Does not have to have one quarter blood or higher but must show membership (or lineage) to a Tribe that whose ancestors once called Montana home (some historical connection to Montana). Learn more at the Tribal Homelands Scholarship.
C. However, if a student is from a Tribe not on the list and the student can make a case for his or her Tribe then there is an appeal process.
The Tribal Homeland Scholarship waives the out of state portion of the tuition and allows the student to pay at the resident rate. It prorates according to the student's credit load. The student must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress with financial aid to be eligible. The award is available to for undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, certificate, and Gallatin College students.

Graduate School Waivers
The Graduate School offers tuition waivers for graduate students who serve as Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs) or Graduate Research Assistants (GRAs). Contact your department of graduate study for information.
