Teaching Resources

  • The Center for Faculty Excellence provides workshops and resources for faculty to improve their teaching knowledge and skills.
  • New Faculty Orientation provides information about help new faculty transition at MSU. Includes information about teaching and research resources and the MSU strategic plan.
  • Early Career Faculty Success Program- helping early career faculty with workshops and mentoring.
  • Early Career Faculty Mentoring- The Center for Faculty Excellence pairs early career faculty with experienced faculty outside their college.
  • Early Career Faculty Success Certificate-The Center for Faculty Excellence offers certificates for faculty who attend 6 workshops and complete a reflection exercise during the first three years of their employment at MSU. These workshops help new faculty to succeed in teaching, research, and service.

MSU Internal Grants

  • The Scholarship & Creativity Grant program supports scholarship and creative activity in the arts, humanities and social sciences. Full-time faculty at Montana State University who have earned terminal degrees are eligible to apply.
  • Due twice a year in October and February.
  • $4,000 to $16,000
  • Grant may covers supplies, an approved course buy-out, travel (e.g., archival work), maximum of 1 month summer salary, and other expenses necessary to complete the proposed project. Does not usually cover computers; equipment, unless it has a direct and clearly explained relation to the proposed project; post-production costs of books, articles or other creative activities; travel to professional conferences regularly attended by the applicant.

  • Enabling faculty to engage in activities that will enhance scholarship. 
  • Due twice a year in March and November.
  • Maximum award of $5,000 each
  • For research travel, supplies, conference registrations, preparation of grant proposals, or completion of manuscripts.

  • Instructional Innovation are intended to give faculty funding to create and develop new methods to improve their teaching and student learning with the goal of increasing student success.
  • These grants are available to tenure track and non-tenure track faculty employed at Montana State University Bozeman.  
  • Due Annually in February/March
  • Up to $4,000
  • For travel, supplies, or summer salary for activities beyond the scope of normal teaching assignments. It may not be used for professional meetings not associated with the issues identified in the proposal.

  • For faculty in the College of Arts and Architecture
  • Up to $5,000 for projects
  • Application includes a narrative not to exceed 750 words:
    • The nature and scope of your project, as well as its scholarly significance
    • A brief statement about the project’s methodology
    • The potential impacts and contributions of the project to the discipline and to local/global communities

    • The alignment of the project with Montana State University’s StrategicPlan

  • Another 250 words should address project dissemination and a Budget
  • The application is posted on the CAA website.

  • For faculty in the College of Arts and Architecture
  • Up to $5,000 for new courses, or $2,500 for course modules, revised courses, or other interventions
  • Diversity unquestionably impacts the history, growth and development of all the disciplines within the College of Arts & Architecture. The College of Arts & Architecture Diversity Fellows Program provides resources to CAA faculty to implement revisions to an existing class or to develop a new class focused on diversity as it impacts the growth and development of our creative disciplines. While these fellowships should not be considered as salary or additional compensation, they do provide significant funding for travel, purchase of equipment and supplies, and conference attendance in support of the related course revision or new course development.

  • For funds to help complete or exhibit a research or creative project.

  • The College of Letters and Science is pleased to offer Research Enhancement Awards for faculty travel to conferences, archives, and research sites. In order to apply for Research Enhancement Awards, please contact your department for application details and deadlines.
