Flathead 4-H Foundation Minutes June 19, 2025

Held at the Expo Building at the Flathead County Fairgrounds.

Board members present: Joselyn Hawbaker, Emily Hall, Kristi Davis, Mark Campbell, Christinia Kaupp, Mark Blasdel, Lesley Hawbaker, Carol Olson-Erickson, Wally Sutton, Jill Kahanek, Rick Balestri.

Board members absent: Shelley Turner, Ashley King-Jones, Rose McIntyre, Scott Hinkley, Sandy Evenson. Guests- Rayleen Lyndstead/Hilltop Riders

Meeting Called to order a 6:00p.m. By Carol Olson

Pledges lead by Emily Hall and Joselyn Hawbaker

Correspondence- Thank you from Emily Hall, Tessa Pheifer, Bigfork Chamber.

Secretary’s Report: Mark Campbell moved to accept secretaries’ report with correction. Christinia Kaupp second. Motion passed.

Wally Sutton moved to accept minutes with corrections. Kristi Davis seconded the motion. Motion passed.

Treasurer’s Report: Went over the balances in checking and savings. Moved funds from savings to checking, donations from grants to cover electrical upgrades. Accounts with Amy for Special projects. Mark Campbell is working on that.  Mark Blasdel moved to accept the Treasures Report. Kristi Davis seconded the motion. Motion passed.

Checks written for reimbursements - to Mark Campbell for background checks, to Lesley Hawbaker for banners, and to the Council (Kristi Davis).  Mark Blasdel moved to pay the bills. Christinia Kaupp seconded the motion. Motion Passed.

 

Committee Reports

Brick:  Brick order was placed for 41 bricks, 31 bricks to Chick-Fil-A. 81 out of 100. Brick laying coming out.

Raffle: Clubs are selling tickets, a miscommunication about where the money goes to.

4-H Council: Given by Kristi Davis. Leaders have an opportunity to attend the 4-H Volunteer Institute in Billings October 3-5, 2025. The council had received money from Murdoch’s Retail Roundup and Tractor Supply Clover days. A committee was set up to come up with ideas for how to use the money. State congress will take place in Bozeman in early July. 3 chaperoned and 6 members will be attending.
Officer elections for President and Secretary will take place in September. The next meeting will be held July 31, 2025, one week later than normal.

Camp report:  New staff members, was a great piece written up in the newspaper

Scholarships: Have been deposited at FVCC and Casper. Extension News-1% fees to MSU. Board member active, Org. leader certified member. Active on Z-Suites council for Liability. Amie Gardner in the office needs deposit slips.
Wally Sutton moved to pay for new deposit slips. Kristi Davis seconded the motion. Motion Passed

Old Business-Fencing at the camp has been put on hold, Mike got hurt. NBC stuff, just going to sit on that for now.

New Business -  Camp scholarships, 42 campers. Reduced rate for kids who helped with cleaning up, 21 kids. Camp has a 50% reduction in price for youth who particiapated with spring clean-up.  Shirts, please go look. Big Fork parade- looking for clubs to walk. Great Fish acceptance, need board members to help do things. July 10th meeting. At the September meeting we will discuss where funds go when we receive. We are also a part of the Kalispell Chamber, if anyone would like to go to the mixers. Marketing rules.Text chains to out all the info.

Flathead County 4-H Foundation Scholarship Application

Scholarship opportunities:

Four - $500 scholarships for Graduating High School Seniors

            (Must be an active Flathead 4-H member in good standing)

 

Two - $500 scholarships for Current College / Trade School Students

(Must have been an active Flathead 4-H member in good standing upon graduation from high school)

Please check the box for the scholarship you are applying for.

All scholarships must be used during the 2024-2025 academic year.

Please complete this scholarship form in its entirety. Typed answers are preferred. You may attach additional sheets of paper if your answers exceed the space allowed. Applicants must be currently attending or plan to attend a college, trade school, or other institution of higher learning during academic yr 2024-2025.

A complete scholarship application packet must include the following:

  • scholarship application
  • letter of reference from a 4-H Leader
  • summary/resume of your 4-H accomplishments (i.e. projects, awards, trips, events, activities, etc.)

The complete scholarship application packet must arrive (not postmarked) at the Flathead County Extension Office no later than 4:30 pm Thursday, May 30, 2024.

Flathead 4-H Foundation is excited to

announce an opportunity to affirm your

place and provide a legacy for the

future at the Flathead County Fairgrounds!

Make your mark in the walkway that leads into the Grandstand Building. Have your family name, a 4-H member’s name, your business or organization’s name engraved in a brick on the walkway. You could even choose to engrave a brick in honor of someone special or create a family treasure for generations to come. We have lots of people that have spent much of their life in and around 4-H over the years and many have come through the grandstand building on their way to a livestock sale, or in support of one of their family members involved in 4-H. So honor your special friend, loved one, or family member with a commemorative engraved brick that will last forever in the walkway to the Grandstand building. Placement of the engraved bricks on the ground will be random.

Duties of the Board of Directors
1. The duties of this board shall be to care for the affairs of the Foundation during periods between regular meetings of the Foundation. The Board of Directors shall keep an accurate record of its proceedings and report same to the members at the next regular meeting.
2. The Board shall authorize such expenditures as are herein provided for.
3. To assist in securing finances for the Foundation.
4. Board of Directors shall have a minimum of four meetings a year.
