The dairy goat project allows members to raise a goat for milk, mohair, or even for packing. Youth wishing to enroll in Breeding Goat must also be enrolled in Level 1, 2 or 3.

Dairy Goat, Level 1

Enroll in Breeding when registering in ZSuite.

Youth will learn about both dairy goats (raised primarily for milk) and Angora goats (raised for mohair). Youth will also learn about goat anatomy, breeds, the costs of raising a goat, and how to care for a goat, all while developing important life skills.

Complete a minimum of seven activities and three learning experiences each year to complete this project. It may take three years to complete this level.

 

Dairy Goat, Level 2

Enroll in Breeding when registering in ZSuite.

Intermediate learners can explore new challenges, opportunities, and a range of activities related to goats and the goat industry. Youth will learn how to keep a goat healthy, feed for maximum production, prepare for kidding, develop judging skills and milk a goat properly.

Complete a minimum of seven activities and three learning experiences each year to complete this project. It may take three years to complete this level.

 

Dairy Goat, Level 3

Enroll in Breeding when registerin in ZSuite.

Experienced members will find fun and challenging activities as they delve into genetics, careers, national industry issues, diseases, biosecurity, body condition scoring, linear appraisal, breeding programs, pedigrees, dystocia, quality assurance, and leadership opportunities.
