Download Position Description and Application

The advisor serves as a mentor and support individual for the outstanding 4-H youth selected each year as state ambassador officers.  Looking for a volunteer interested in working with highly motivated teen leaders for a 2 to 4 year term. If you are interested in attending statewide events and activities and helping guide a wonderful group of teens please consider this opportunity. Click Here for application and more information.

We are happy to answer any questions and provide as much detail as possible to any interested volunteer and provide a detailed description of the time commitment. Briefly, the commitment includes attending state events with the team, 2 weekend retreats (fall and spring), one zoom meeting a month and email, text and phone communication with the team in order to help them to fulfill their commitments. This is extremely rewarding experience and is highly supported by the Montana 4-H program.

Some insight from the current advisor, Catherine McNeil.

I have had the gift of being the Montana 4-H Ambassador Advisor for nearly 5 years.  It has been such a great time in my life that I hate to leave the position. However, it is time that this position is made available to a leader that wants to work with the best kids around.  As the advisor I play many roles in the lives of the youth team members – from mother to guide, sometimes counselor to cheerleader.  Each role is such an important part to the growth of the youth that make up the Montana 4-H Ambassador Officer Team.

Every team is unique, as the young adults that make up the teams are their own individuals.  Each experience is different, but so very rewarding.  Not only have I seen so much growth in the kids I have had the opportunity to work with, but also experienced so much growth in myself because of working with all of them.

As the advisor, it is expected to attend:

4-H Congress and Pre-congress in July (week)

Rec Lab in March/April (1 weekend)

Ambassador Fall Training in October (1 weekend)-

Legislative Breakfast in January of Legislative Years (1 weekend)

Spring Retreat in May/June (1 weekend)

Fall Retreat in August/September (1 weekend)

                Monthly conference calls

There is a small stipend that is given by the Montana 4-H Leader’s Council to help offset any travel costs and all expenses and registrations while attending the event and meetings are covered by the Ambassador program.

I hate to say good-by to the advisor position, but it is time another leader to be able to experience this amazing opportunity.  If you are interested or have questions regarding this position, please contact me at 406-439-8570, mcneilcb@gmail.com or Brett Schomer at 406-994-3501,bschomer@montana.edu .

Sincerely,

Catherine McNeil

Application Deadline is June 15 and selection will occur during Montana 4-H congress.
