TEA Fellows/ILEP
The Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program (TEA), a program of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State, provides secondary-school teachers from Europe, Eurasia, South Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the Western Hemisphere with unique opportunities to develop expertise in their subject areas, enhance their teaching skills, and increase their knowledge about the United States. TEA teachers will travel to the United States to participate in a six-week professional development program at an American university. This is followed by a reciprocal visit by U.S. teachers to work on joined teacher-training projects in TEA alumni schools overseas. TEA also provides follow-on grants to the TEA international alumni to purchase essential materials for their schools, offer follow-on training for other teachers, and conduct activities that will build on the exchange visits. The key program objectives include: 1) contribute to improving the quality of secondary education in participating countries, and 2) develop professional and personal relationships between U.S. and international teachers.
Dr. Jioanna Carjuzaa is grateful to work with Janelle Rasmussen, Director of Training/Special Programs at the Office of International Programs at MSU and her dedicated staff in addition to the fabulous team of instructors that provide programming for our international student groups. Dr. Carjuzaa has served as the Academic Coordinator and as an instructor of General Secondary Methods as well as ESL/EFL Instructional Strategies for the following TEA Fellows and ILEP groups:

The Office of International Programs hosted 20 middle school and high school teachers from 12 different countries (Bangladesh, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mali, Mozambique, Peru, Sudan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Venezuela) who came to MSU in mid-September 2017 for a 6 week intensive professional development program sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State, called the Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program (TEA). The TEA Fellows worked with teachers in the Bozeman public schools and met with community members as well. They also visited the Flathead Reservation and presented at the MEA/MFT conference. The Office of International Programs is hosting 18 Secondary Educators from 15 different countries (Azerbaijan, Bolivia, Cambodia, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Honduras, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Nepal, Nicaragua, Niger, Rwanda, Tajikistan, Thailand) coming to MSU in late September 2016 for a 6 week intensive professional development program sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State, called the Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program (TEA). The group will be working with our MSU Department of Education Faculty and will also be participating in a practical experience, partnering with local teachers in the Bozeman public schools.

Montana State University’s Office of International Programs is partnering with the
Bozeman Public Schools and MSU’s Department of Education to welcome 18 Pakistani teachers
to Bozeman on February 26, 2016, for 6 weeks. This is a highly esteemed group of secondary
educators from around Pakistan. They will be partnered with Bozeman Public School
teachers (Bozeman High School, Chief Joseph Middle School, and Sacajawea Middle School)
for a 40-hour field experience, as well as engage in civic and community service projects

Montana State University’s Office of International Programs is partnering with the
Bozeman Public Schools and MSU’s Department of Education to welcome 19 English, Math,
Science, and Social Study teachers to Bozeman on September 18, 2015, for 6 weeks.

will be partnered with Bozeman Public School teachers (Bozeman High School, Chief

ILEP Spring 2009
Initiated in 2005, the International Leadership in Education Program (ILEP) brings outstanding secondary teachers from the Near East, South Asia and Southeast Asia to the United States to further develop expertise in their subject areas, enhance their teaching skills, and increase their knowledge about the United States. The participants of this program will work to improve the quality of secondary education in their home countries while developing personal and professional relationships with Bozeman faculty members and Bozeman Public School teachers.
The ILEP fellows will attend semester-long, academic programs at Montana State University which includes coursework and intensive training in teaching methodologies, curriculum development, and the use of technology for education. The program also includes an 8-week internship for the fellows within the Bozeman Public Schools in order to actively immerse participants into the American classroom environment. The program builds teacher leadership skills and provides experience that can be shaped for their home teaching environments. Additionally, the fellows will participate in numerous civic activities in and around the Bozeman area in order to fully experience the Montana culture and community. Montana State University’s Office of International Programs will welcome sixteen ILEP fellows to Bozeman on January 9, 2009. They are highly esteemed educators, in a variety of disciplines, from around the globe.
