The Office Assistant provides reception and administrative support for the MSU Writing Center staff. The Office Assistant works directly with Writing Center staff to enact the vision and principles of the MSU Writing Center:  
 
Our vision is to create a dynamic, collaborative environment that fosters and maintains a vibrant community of writers across the MSU campuses. As we participate with one another and with others to foster a community of writing, we are guided by the following principles: Community, Respect, Collaboration, Reciprocity, and Change.   
 
Primary job duties include 

  • front desk reception tasks such as greeting guests of the Writing Center, answering the phone and taking messages as needed, and assisting students with making appointments. 
  • building and maintaining spreadsheets and calendars 
  • helping to maintain the Writing Center’s online scheduler 
  • communicating efficiently and effectively with staff and partners 

Successful candidates will be detail-oriented, friendly, motivated, and proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. Knowledge of Microsoft Teams, Canva, and website design also a plus, but can be learned on the job. Candidates must have strong verbal and written communication skills and be enthusiastic about working in a dynamic learning community.


We prefer office assistants to work 12-18 hours per week. We will work with your class schedule. Working after five is an option, although we will need some overlap with the other Writing Center staff.We would like to hire someone to work with us for multiple semesters.
