Overview

Staying healthy is essential to your academic success!

The Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education (OCHE) and the Montana Board of Regents require all Montana University System (MUS) students to havemedical insurance. To meet this requirement, students may use:

  • Private insurance (individual, family, or parent plan)
  • Medicaid
  • The MUS-sponsoredStudent Health Insurance Plan (offered through BCBSMT)

Each semester, students are required toattest to their insurance statusby ACCEPTING or DECLINING the MUS-sponsored insurance planin MyMSU.

The process for students to demonstrate they meet the insurance requirement is as follows:

  • Login to MyMSU
  • Click on "Tasks/Calendar" in the upper right-hand corner (screenshot below) tasks
  • Select the "Insurance Selection Requirement" Task and proceed to Accept or Decline insurance
  • If you do not see the Task, click on the "Billing & Payment" tab where the Insurance Selection Requirement will be visible (screenshot below)

billing

  • After completion of the requirement, changes to billing will be reflected within 24 hours. Be sureto double check your bill to ensure the premium has been applied if you accepted insurance or omitted if you have alternate coverage

Important: If a student does not complete the Insurance Selection Requirement task prior to the date of fee assessment, they will be enrolled in the MUS-sponsored insurance. This results in the insurance premium being charged to the student’s account.Students can make changes to their Insurance Selection Requirement via the steps above in MyMSU up until the 15thday of class.  After that date, no changes can be made.

If you already have health insurance insurance, you must decline this student insurance policy each semester by completing the steps above.

Billing Insurance for Medical Services

MSU Student Health Services does not directly bill private insurance plans, outside of the Student Health Insurance Plan, for services. Charges for services not covered by the Student Health Fee are applied to the student's account and payment is the student's responsibility.

Students who wish to file a claim for services for reimbursement from their private insurance carrier can request a statement from the front desk to file claims themselves.

Pharmacy:

The MSU Student Health Services Pharmacy will directly bill most insurance plans including Medicaid for prescriptions and some vaccines.

Remember:

There is no additional cost for a medical appointment for enrolled students who have paid the Health Fee through their student account.
