By understanding the importance of classification, faculty and staff can make informed decisions about how to store, share, and protect the data they work with every day. Data Types are classified as Public, Low Risk, Medium Risk, High Risk, or Specialized Risk

Data Classifications

Data Types are defined and managed through the Enterprise Data Governance Data Standards and Procedures. Please visit this page for information on classifications, as well as other standards and procedures involved in data governance.

These standards establish expectations for the management, storage, sharing, reporting, and disposal of institutional data. They should be used by employees, students, administrators, and IT personnel who access or use institutional data as part of their role.

Should you have any questions, please reach out to your Departmental IT team if applicable or the UIT Service Desk.
