Science Math Resource Center Expansion: Reid Hall
Description of Request
Submitted By: Suzi Taylor, Director of SMRC
The Science Math Resource Center (SMRC) is requesting additional office space to accommodate program growth and new hires associated with federally funded grants. The SMRC is currently involved in several initiatives, including the Applied Quantum CORE and Noyce Master Teaching Fellows projects, which require the hiring of additional FTE employees and students. Additionally, there is a pending project with a high likelihood of NSF DRK-12 funding that would necessitate the hiring of one new FTE. The SMRC has identified Reid 427 as a suitable space to meet their expanding needs. This room was previously allocated to the Troops to Teachers program, which concluded in May 2024, resulting in its vacancy. By reallocating Reid 427, the SMRC plans to undertake internal reorganization within their current footprint, optimizing space usage. This reorganization includes accommodating students in Reid 427, thereby alleviating space constraints in the main office area and facilitating the integration of new FTE hires. No other requests for Reid 427 have been received, and reallocating this space to the SMRC would significantly enhance its utilization.
