Description of Request

Submitted By: Kyleen Breslin, Director of Office of Institutional Equity

To improve campus support and to provide clarity of services offered, MSU is combining and modifying services previously provided by the Office of Institutional Equity and the VOICE Center, which will now be known as the Campus Civil Rights (CCR) office. To better integrate the mission and operations of the two teams, the co-location of offices and services has been requested.

Presently, the Office of Institutional Equity occupies an office suite on the third floor of Montana Hall, accommodating four employees, while the VOICE Center operates from space on the third floor of the Student Union Building, housing two full-time employees and student workers. Accommodating the six existing staff members, along with the forthcoming new investigator position, will require adequate space with private offices to uphold confidentiality. Additional space considerations for this group include access to a conference room, private consult areas, space for student desks and/or cubicles, and a front desk reception area.

After thorough consideration, staff believes that available space on the second floor of the Swingle building can serve these needs.  The remainder of the vacant rooms on the floor will be allocated as an appropriate use is identified. Additionally, university Facilities will explore options for the install of an ADA accessible button to add additional access on the east side of Swingle. The remainder of the vacant rooms on the floor will be allocated as an appropriate use is identified. This allocation will result in vacancies in both Montana Hall and the Strand Union Building. Allocating these spaces will follow the standard space process as needs are identified.
