EHHD Lab Reallocation: Herrick Hall Basement

Presently, the lab, lab support facilities, and graduate student spaces in the basement of Herrick Hall have been allocated for use by Dr. Mary Miles to conduct research in nutrition. Dr. Miles’ research will be moving into the Wellness Center, where a dedicated area has been reserved for her ongoing research, projects, graduate students, and equipment. Therefore, she will be vacating all locations indicated in this proposal. The Department of Food Systems, Nutrition and Kinesiology, in the College of Education Health and Human Development is requesting to maintain the spaces being vacated in Herrick for use in another area of kinesiology-based research. This space would accommodate Dr. Dawn Tarabochia, a new incoming faculty hire, and graduate students in the Sport and Coaching Sciences option, as well as undergraduate research students who are majors in Kinesiology. Kinesiology currently has 449 undergraduate and 38 graduate students. Therefore, the training space for students would greatly benefit the student research learning experience while also providing lab space for several faculty members. The spaces in Herrick will complement equipment in the Wellness Center and Harrison 101 and 101A, resulting in better lab-based skills and training for undergraduate and graduate students to conduct research. Thus, the current configuration of space in the Herrick Basement presents a reasonable and usable space to sustain and further advance ongoing research projects and student engagement.
