12-03-2021 College of Arts & Architecture Shared UIT Office: Cheever Hall 125
Description of Request
Submitted By: Josh McRae, College of Arts & Architecture UIT
The College of Arts and Architecture (CAA) is requesting the use of Cheever 125 (former
DSEL Space) as a shared office space and storage/staging of CAA IT assets & CAA Print
Center supplies. Their needs are as follows:
• Office space for CAA Technicians
• Office space for the CAA Print Manager
• Storage and staging of CAA IT assets
• Storage of supplies for the CAA Print Center (Cheever 120)
Currently, the UIT techs are being accommodated in IT space/staff office (Cheever
126) and CAA IT has been borrowing temporary space to complete work. CAA has been
able to temporarily accommodate these needs with loaned spaces vacated by other employees
working from home, and work rotations that utilize work-from-home privileges. This
is no longer be an option as employees have come back to campus full-time.
CAA has proposed that Cheever 125 serve as the IT support center for the college.
Cheever 125 would serve as the offices for UIT techs, and Print Center Manager and
provide storage space for IT assets and Print Center supplies. This change continues
the efforts of IT shared services to create a more cohesive IT organization and provide
better service to the College. These modifications will also bridge the CAA IT office
with the CAA Print Center creating better efficiency for the two services to work
together, enabling the Print Center to better serve students. Additionally, relocating
the Print Center manager and supply storage currently taking up valuable space on
the print floor will open up space in the CAA Print Center to expand services, specifically
the Risograph duplicator funded by the 21/22 CFAC cycle. Lastly, Cheever 125 is a
lockable space unlike the Print Center, which is always open. Therefore, the proposed
use of 125 will provide better security for assets.
Physical space changes required to accommodate this request:
• A doorway to be re-opened between the CAA Print Center and Cheever 125. Currently,
the doorway has been dry walled over, however the complete doorframe is already in
place.
• The current use of Cheever 125, by the DSEL program, will be relocated to Romney
Hall at the completion of the renovation.
Resolution
Date: December 3, 2021
Space Management Committee has approved the allocation of the office in Cheever Hall 125 for purposes of accommodating UIT staff members and the Print Center Manager, as well as for storing assets for both operations.
