Description of Request

Submitted By: Sarah Shannon

Currently, Sherrick Hall 204 is used as a shared research space for faculty and students by The College of Nursing (CoN). CoN has outgrown Sherrick Hall, built in early 1970s, due to increased program size and increasing research among CoN faculty. With the funding of three HRSA grants in the past month, hiring of an Associate Dean for Research (Dr. Molly Secor), and hiring of a new Assistant Professor who will be doing research requiring time in a dry lab (shared use in Jason Carter's sleep lab), the capacity of their space has been grossly exceeded. Additionally, several projects require storage of expensive or heavy equipment, the lack of an elevator in Sherrick has required unsafe transport of these materials up and down stairs.

Therefore, the CoN has requested additional space for research purposes such as use by Principal Investigators and GRAs, research staff, equipment, team meetings, etc.. This request, the allocation of CFT5 230 as shared research space, will support at least three and up to seven CoN research teams. These teams will include:

1) Dr. Laura Larsson: 8 externally funded projects, $ 11 million (4 additional under review)

2) Associate Dean Molly Secor (started 8/18/21): HRSA NEPQR grant - $ 4.5 million

3) New Assistant Prof Elizabeth Johnson (starts 1/1/22): will use Carter sleep lab for research 4) Dr. Sally Moyce: several funded projects and several under review

5) Dr. Marg Hammersla: several projects under review for external funding
