Description of Request

The Library Admin Staff and the Friends of the Library need a new location to store items for their Outreach events. They currently use space in a section of Room 37/37A (known as the CAGE) that is a locked/keypad entry only space. The Library's Collection Management Committee, with the Dean and Associate Dean, have approved the use of all the space in Room 37 (Key entry)/37A (Keypad entry) for the Special Collections Department (SCAI). There is an urgent need to find additional space for collection's growth for SCAI. Due to the need to keep the area secure for only SCAI Library staff and no patron access, it is requested to find another location for the Library event materials. We propose to move the Library Administration and Friends of the Library Event materials from Room 37/37A to a new location in the basement of at least 100 sq.ft., within the Renne building for storage and easy access to their event materials. When Room 37/37A has been vacated of all event materials and cleaned, the Special Collections Department will locate several of their collections to this room for storage and curation activities. There is no additional space within the other floors of the Renne Library building that meet the size need for the event material storage. All other space is currently in use for other purposes.

Space Management Committee unanimously approved the allocation of the storage space in Renne 34 to the Friends of the Library for their event materials.
