Capitol Peak (14,130')

Hike on August 15, 2003 (Photos by Jeff Barish)

Capitol is the northern-most Colorado Fourteener in the Elk Range mountains near Aspen, Colorado.  I hiked with Jeff Barish and Dalen Stevens of Telluride, Colorado.  We hiked 6.5 miles from the Capitol Creek trailhead to Capitol Lake on 8/14/2003, then hiked to the summit on 8/15/2003.  We were turned back by rain and lightning on our first attempt at 6AM, but the weather cleared and we hiked again by about 9:30AM.  We arrived at the summit shortly after 1PM.
