Teaching Innovation Award
Myleen Leary
The recipient of the Teaching Innovation Award is Myleen Leary, an associate professor in the Jake Jabs College of Business and Entrepreneurship. This award recognizes a faculty member who implements novel teaching practices with the potential for implementation across disciplines and a measurable impact on student success. Sponsored by the Office of Academic Affairs, the award comes with a $2,000 honorarium.
Leary teaches courses in management research, which she has worked to overhaul in recent years to include data analytics and novel software. She has created new course materials and according to colleagues, her modernization of those courses has had positive ripple effects throughout the business college and on the wider MSU campus.
“As a result of her initiative and thoughtful course development, design and implementation, our management students are learning and practicing valuable skills that make them more competitive in the labor force and effective in the workplace,” said Dan Miller, dean of the college, in a nomination letter. “Myleen learned a new software, thoughtfully designed a course to support students as they were introduced to a new field of study and created new and engaging pedagogical materials. Her innovation is two-fold: re-designing a course to advance a college goal and sharing that knowledge with students, faculty and staff in the college and across the university.”
