Dear Bobcat Parent and Family Members,We are ready and excited for students to arrive! For some of you, your student is already on their way or maybe they stayed for the summer to work, study, play or all of the above. Many of you first-year parents may be helping pack the car or have already hit the road with your student. Whatever the situation, there's anticipation on all sides for Move-In Day at MSU. In addition to all the residence staff, we have mobilized over 450 volunteers to make sure the day runs smoothly and is a celebration of this significant milestone in your student's life--and yours! I still get misty-eyed remembering my parents accompanying me to college my freshman year. As I mentioned last week, your student will have received instructions as to when (one of five assigned time periods between 08:00 and 3:30 PM) and where to show up. The Residence Life webpage has logistical details including a traffic map and curbside unloading credential and temporary parking permit forms for your vehicle dashboard. The City of Bozeman has a number of street enhancement projects underway, so check here for updates and detours around town. Your sense of humor will be much appreciated, and crowded elevators are prime time for corny jokes! Just sayin', dads, there may be an opportunity to embarrass your son or daughter one more time before that farewell hug. We hope you will join us at this week's MSU Debut events like Wednesday night's Welcome BBQ and Convocation. Once your student is moved in and you have time for exploring, consider taking in a walking trail in town, a canyon hike or a stroll along Bozeman's Main Street. Watch this video with clips from last year's Move-in Day to see why we're looking forward to welcoming your student and you! Kind regards, Matthew R. Caires Dean of Students P.S. If you do attend Convocation, I'd love to hear your thoughts about the event. You are welcome to reply to my emails directly or reach me at mcaires@montana.edu. |
