The 9th annual Montana State University Snow and Avalanche Workshop was held on November 8th 2023 in SUB Ballroom A. Details and a link to the recording below. 

Outline of the Workshop:

2-4pm: Stress Injury Awareness for Avalanche Professionals Training. RSVP Required.

4-5pm: Vendor Hour! Meet and mingle with representatives from local businesses, gear companies, and community partners. Purchase your raffle tickets for a chance to win prizes from all of sponsors. Light snacks provided. 

5pm: Awareness Presentations:

  3. The Landscape of Avalanche Edudcation in Bozeman: Shannon Regan, Education Coordinator for the Friends of Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center (GNFAC)

  4. How your Avalanche Center Works for You: Alex Marienthal,  GNFAC forecaster

6pm: Graduate Research Presentations:

  1. Wet-Snow Avalanches: Josh Lipkowitz

  2. Impact of UAV Data on Avalanche Forecasts: Alex Haddad

  3. impact-Initiated Avalanches:Sam Verplanck

7pm: Panel Discussion on Mental Health Resiliency and responding to loss in the mountains. Intro by Dean of Students Matt Caires, Panelists: Gabrielle Antonioli, Gary Kuehn, Justin Short (Ridgeline Counseling Services), and Blair Hensen (Open Routes Adventures Counseling).
