Training: Lost in the Shuffle Alumni Lounge
Presenters: Kelly Beiswanger and Nicole Soll
Identifying training requirements for staff can be daunting. Are you constantly explaining which training course to take, chasing down training records, or struggling to connect certificates with corresponding protocols? Ensuring that staff receive the required training – initial and recurring – can be even more difficult. This course will outline several regulatory training requirements and how they can be delivered to staff. Multiple strategies for implementing compliant training systems will be discussed including CITI (tips, tricks, and customization options), in-house/in-person, and external remote for special groups.
Conducting and Preparing for Off Campus Research Room 235
Presenters: Kyleen Breslin, Madison Myers, and Nika Stoop
Off campus research adds a level of compliance and safety that researchers must prepare for. This session covers tools and resources researchers can utilize while preparing and conducting off campus research, field safety plan development, and responding to emergencies while in the field.

Laboratory Emergency Preparedness Room 233
Presenter: Scott Sanders
Laboratory emergencies are (hopefully) a rare occurrence, and preparedness is often overlooked. It has been said that “By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.” This is especially true for the laboratory. Join this session to learn how to be prepared for worst case scenarios.
Post Approval Monitoring & Internal Audits: Are we doing what we said we'd do? Alumni Lounge
Presenters: Lauren Cantamessa and Amy Robison
This session considers what happens to a research protocol after approval – and why it matters. In addition to standardized annual reviews, creating an internal Post-Approval Monitoring (“PAM”) Program for research follow-up can identify naturally occurring protocol drift, help Principal Investigators better understand regulations, build relationships with researchers, and assist your institution in preparing for an external audit. Example PAM rubrics will be shared.
Research Misconduct - "What is it? How does it happen? Could it happen to you?" Room 235
Presenter: Kirk Lubick
Scientists face many pressures in today’s “Publish or Perish” world. This session will discuss the core areas of Research Misconduct (fabrication, falsification, and plagiarism) and Responsible Conduct of Research (“RCR”). This session will discuss some of the pressures that appear to be common triggers for research misconduct and will also touch on real-life examples of research misconduct and how to prevent research misconduct occurring in your research career.
