Course Description:
This graduate nursing course promotes the development of the practitioners’ comprehensive assessment proficiency, critical thinking, and diagnostic reasoning. The practitioner will utilize a systematic approach for clinical decision making, diagnosis, and documentation.
Course Objectives:
- Interpret relevant findings of diagnostic or other evaluative studies as they relate to acute and chronic diseases and other health
- Analyze rationale for treatment modalities based on etiology, pathogenesis, and clinical manifestations of acute /chronic diseases and health
- Synthesize and apply current research in physiology and pathophysiology related to select patient case
- Synthesize and apply current physiology research and best-practice research for the treatment of common
- Perform and interpret age-, gender-, and condition-specific diagnostic tests and screening procedures.
- Formulate comprehensive differential diagnoses, considering epidemiology, environmental, population community characteristics, and life stage
Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completing this course the student will be able to:
- Obtain a comprehensive patient history based on chief complaint(s)
- Analyze the necessary components of physical assessment based on chief complaint and review of systems
- Integrate diagnostic tests used in ruling in/out a differential diagnosis
- Formulate a list of two to three diffential diagnoses based on chief complaint, review of systems, and assessment
