Course Title: NRSG 606 Statistical Applications for Graduate Nursing
Credits: 3
Semesters Offered: Fall, Spring
Prerequisites: Undergraduate statistics covering descriptive and inferential data analysis methods
Degree: MN (optional), DNP
DNP Essentials: 1, 3
Graduate Program Objectives: 1, 3
Course Description:
This graduate nursing course builds on basic understanding of quantitative methods and resulting statistical analyses, with particular application to critique of health sciences research. Students reach a graduate level of sophistication in their understanding of the statistical strength of published research. Students will gain facility in statistical techniques of correlation, regression, Chi square, t-test, analysis of variance, logistic regression, and confidence limit estimation.
Course Objectives:
- Identify the level of measurement for quantitative data
- Summarize data in terms of central tendency and
- Translate quantitative information between graphic and narrative
- Choose appropriate statistical tests for the analysis of relationships between
- Conduct inferential statistical tests of group mean differences and for relationships between
- Interpret statistical analyses in terms of hypothesis testing and potential for type I and type II
- Interpret and critique statistical analyses in published research
- Differentiate between the statistical significance and the clinical significance of
- Apply statistical theory to develop a plan for analysis of
Course Learning Outcomes:
- Develops hypothesis statements and conduct appropriate statistical analysis to test hypotheses. (Course Objectives:1-5) [Course assignments to meet this outcome: development of hypotheses and appropriate statistical tests for clinical scenarios)]
- Interprets the results of statistical analysis and make conclusions with respect to hypothesis testing. (Course Objectives: 6-10). Course assignments to meet this outcome: statistical analyses of clinical scenarios.
