Course Title: NRSG 509 Clinical Nurse Leader Laboratory I

Prerequisites: NRSG 604, NRSG 608, or consent of instructor

 

Course Description:

Students will engage in activities that promote development of CNL competencies. Strategies used to promote patient-centered care and interprofessional collaboration in selected settings will be examined.

 

Course Objectives:

  1. Explore the use of nursing and healthcare systems engineering theories, concepts and tools to assess current structure, processes and outcomes selected healthcare microsystems.
  1. Examine collaborative, interprofessional approaches and strategies in the design, coordination, and evaluation of an intervention that influences healthcare outcomes.
  1. Utilize information and communication technologies to assess an intervention that influences healthcare outcomes.
  1. Analyze an education plan, evaluating the role of the team, the teaching learning methods used, the client interactions, the expected and actual outcomes.

 

Student Learning Outcomes:

Students will analyze a microsystem.

  • Lead interprofessional team reviews of patient plans of care; ensure revisions are evidence- based, contribute to achievement of patient outcomes, and reflect client/family input.
  • Integrate best practice guidelines and EBP into patient plans of care.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate a health education plan for a unit-specific issue common to multiple clients.
  • Evaluate the role of the team, teaching/learning method used, client interactions, expected and actual outcomes.
  • Conduct health education of individual patient or cohort based on risk profile. Analyze interprofessional patterns of communication, collaboration, and conflict.
