Course Description:

Theories and models of curriculum development are explored in this course designed for nurses teaching in either academic or practice environments. Variables associated with design and planning of educational interventions are explored. Students synthesize appropriate theoretical concepts to develop a model curriculum.

Theories and models of curriculum development are explored in this course designed for nurses teaching in either academic or practice environments. Students synthesize appropriate theoretical concepts to develop a model curriculum sensitive to diverse learning styles.

 

Course Objectives:

  1. Analyze contextual data relevant to planning, designing, and implementing a curriculum.
  2. Analyze the role and scope of regulatory, accreditation and credentialing bodies on the structure and functions of nursing education.
  3. Compare and contrast philosophical approaches to curriculum development.
  4. Compare and contrast organizational strategies for curriculum design.
  5. Analyze the relationship between curriculum and program objectives, program delivery methods, course objectives, instructional methods, and teaching and learning strategies.
  6. Apply principles of formative and summative evaluation to program outcomes.
  7. Design a model curriculum that demonstrates inclusive excellence.

  2. Craft a curriculum proposal.
