Course Description:
This clinical course facilitates application of existing and concurrent theoretical and empirical knowledge, professional nursing practice, interprofessional collaboration and referral in the managment and delivery of safe, high-quality care of the adult patient experiencing acute/ critical and complex health alterations. Clinical experiences will provide opportunities to apply knowledge and evidence-based care across the adult lifespan in a variety of healthcare settings.
Catalog Description:
Apply theoretical and empirical knowledge, professional nursing practice, interprofessional collaboration and referral to manage and deliver safe, high-quality care of the adult patient experiencing acute/critical and complex health alterations in a variety of healthcare settings.
Course Objectives:
- Synthesize previously learned knowledge and concurrent knowledge into the care of patients and families with complex and critical illnesses and injuries taking considerations of age-related physiological changes and chronic illness.
- Determine psychosocial issues ad challenges for patients and families experiencing critical illness or injury to promote health and return of optimal functioning to the extent illness/injury will allow.
- Integrate the nursing process and appropriate patient education principles to plan, implement, and evaluate, interprofessional collaboration, and technology to care for patients with serious health alterations.
- Recommend appropriate safety measures using effective communication skills.
Course Learning Outcomes: Upon completing this course, the student will be able to:
- Evaluate evidence-based practice, information technology to communicate and manage care patients experiencing critical or complex illness/injury.
- Design a holistic plan of care including assessment, implementation, prioritization, delegation, and evaluation of patients experiencing critical and complex illness/injury in collaboration with other health care team members.
- Demonstrate effective and therapeutic communication with patients, families, and other health care team members.
- Incorporate health promotions/prevention interventions for themselves and for their clients.
