Current legislation requires federal loan amounts to be reduced based on enrollment when a student is enrolled less than full-time. For undergraduate students enrolled in 6–11 credits, federal loans (excluding Parent PLUS) are reduced proportionally to enrollment. For example, enrollment in 9 of 12 credits results in a loan amount equal to 75% of the full-time amount. For graduate students enrolled in 6–8 credits, all federal loans are reduced proportionally to enrollment. For example, enrollment in 7 of 9 credits results in a loan amount equal to approximately 77% of the full-time amount.
