Hello 4-H Families!

4-H Camp and Cloverbud Camp are coming up in a few weeks.

The Marias Fair is coming up fast! Just a reminder that all
members have to have five to seven activities from their project
books and two of three experiences completed before fair. They
need to have it checked by their leader or the Extension Office.

If you haven’t picked up your families first fair packet, please do
so as soon as you can. The deadline for fair entries on FairEntry
is June 16th. If you need any help or have any questions feel free
to stop in the office and we can help you!

Cloverbuds will meet every Wednesday 3pm - 5pm @ The
Exhibit Building until fair.

As always, please reach out if you have any questions at all!

New Volunteers - Clover Academy Volunteer Orientation
New volunteers will need to complete a volunteer orientation in Zsuite. Log into your personal
account, look on the left panel, then scroll to “Clover Academy,” and click to begin your four training
modules. This training takes around an hour to complete. Each module usually takes about 15
minutes. We cannot finalize your leader status until this orientation is completed.

New Weight Limit for Beef
The Marias Fair Livestock Committee voted to increase the maximum steer pay weight to 1,650 pounds
which would make the maximum sale participation weight 1,848 pounds.

Planning for fair
Check out the 2025 Fair Book at https://www.montana.edu/extension/mariasfair/mariasfairbook/ to see
what potential exhibits you can take to fair! The 2025 Fair Book will be available soon.
You can only enter items from projects that you are signed up for.

Fair Packets
Fair Packets are ready to be picked up, we still have quite a few. Fair Registration closes on ZSuites on
Monday June, 16 . After that day you can no longer register for fair so, please be sure to sign up by the
16th.
Register by signing in to your FairEntry account at http://mariasfair.fairentry.com/. If you forgot your
password please select the “forgot password” option. Do not create a new account. If this is your first
year participating in the Marias Fair, you will need to create a new account. There are instructions in your
packet. The deadline to register for fair and turn in all fees is Monday, June 16 . New campers - camper
spot requests are time and date stamped so the earlier you turn in your request the better chance you
have of getting that spot.

Food Booth Safety
Food Booth Safety Training is required to be taken every other year by members and parents who will be
working at the food booth at the Marias Fair. Please watch the training prepared by Glacier County Agent,
Lisa Terry, by clicking on the YouTube link. There will be a question on FairEntry asking if you have
watched the video. This fulfills the required food booth training requirement

Attention Cat Members
There are a couple of new Marias Fair competitions in the feline department this year. In addition to showmanship there will be a “longest whisker” and “longest tail” and a “best costume” contest. You can’t change your cat’s whisker or tail length- No Extensions! but you can be creative in dressing up your cat if he or she will allow it. We are looking forward to seeing your imagination at work!

  • 4-H Congress
This July, Montana 4-H youth age 13 and older, along with volunteers and MSU Extension staff, are invited
to Montana 4-H Congress at Montana State University in Bozeman. “LIFE” stands for Leadership In Future
Endeavors, and this three-day event is all about building the skills, confidence, and connections that lead
to success—both now and long after your 4-H journey ends.
Whether it’s your first time or you’re a returning delegate, Congress offers a fun, jam-packed experience
that brings 4-H’ers together from across the state. You’ll explore new ideas, compete in state contests,
learn by doing, and walk away with memories that last a lifetime.
Here’s what you can expect at Montana 4-H Congress:
  • Make connections with youth and adults from all across Montana and build your network of mentors
    and lifelong friends.
  • Learn by doing through hands-on workshops and competitions.
  • Discover fresh ideas from national speakers and engaging sessions.
  • Set yourself up for success with career-focused learning opportunities.
  • Past participants agree—Congress is impactful. In fact, 94% of attendees said they gained skills to
help them do better in school, and 87% developed goal-setting abilities. From late-night dorm chats
to cheering on friends in contests, the moments you create at Congress help shape who you are and
    who you’ll become.
  • Workshops this year will spark creativity and growth—whether you’re into leadership, wellness, fly
fishing, photography, cybersecurity, or exploring future careers. >> Read Full Workshop Descriptions.
  • Plus, statewide contests offer a chance for youth to showcase their skills in events like
communications, livestock judging, food science, and more. While 13-year-olds may compete, they
are not eligible for out-of-state trips.
  • Learn More about State Contests
  • Registration opens May 1 in ZSuite and closes June 15. Each county has its own deadlines and
requirements, so reach out to your local Extension office soon. You don’t need to enter a contest to
attend—just come ready to learn, lead, and experience what 4-H for LIFE is all about.

How to Use Livestock Feed Sheets
Glacier County Agent, Kari Lewis, has shared a couple of options to help livestock members keep a
better record of the feed that they are providing for their livestock project. Whichever method is used,
at the end of the month, the totals from the sheet should be transferred to the Animal Journal of the
record book. Keeping good records will help you to make decisions for next year. You may want to
change your start weight, your type of feed and ration, the breed of animal, etc.
Livestock Daily Feed Record
This PDF can be printed and is meant to be kept in the barn (on a clipboard, in a folder) and the feed
amounts recorded each day as feed is fed and weighed.
Livestock Daily Feed Record (Excel)
This is the Excel spreadsheet of the Livestock Daily Feed Record.
This can be downloaded and saved to your computer and daily weights added to the spreadsheet.
There is a tab for each month which will then calculate the monthly total automatically.

Livestock showmanship practice
There will be a 4-H livestock showmanship practice Saturday, June 28 at 4 p.m. at Chris and
Lacy Roberts ranch west of Kevin (205 Nepstad Road). Members are encouraged to bring their
livestock animals and show equipment. Please RSVP to Lacy if you are coming and will be
bringing an animal, 406-209-5378. All are welcome, they just need a headcount for dinner.
Meat will be provided, please bring a salad or side dish.

Small Animal and Livestock Showmanship Workshop
Monday, June 23 at the Marias Fairgrounds will be both a small animal and a livestock
showmanship workshop. Small animals (rabbits, cats, dogs, poultry, pocket pets) will be 5:30 -
6:30 and livestock (swine, beef, sheep, and goats) will be 6:30 - 8:30. Flyer and registration
details coming soon. Members do not need to bring their animals but will have the
opportunity to learn showmanship and fitting skills to work on at home.

Marias Fair Shotgun Tournament
