In 1986 the city of Miles voted on the sub-option of having partisan elections (796 votes) or nonpartisan elections (2, 574 votes)
In 1991 at the September 10 primary election the voters approved a change from the commission-manager form of government to the commission-executive form by a vote of 1,355 to 1,070. This reversed a 1986 voter approved adoption of the commission- manager form.
In 1996 the city of Miles voted on consolidation with Custer County.
