In 1986 the city of Great Falls voted on one sub-option. Having five commissioners (4,880 votes) or having seven commissioners (3,629 votes).

In 1996 the city of Great Falls votes on three sub- options. The first was four commissioners (16,767 votes) or six commissioners (7,697 votes). The second was should the mayor have a two-year term (14,609 votes) or four-year term (10,442 votes). The third sub-option should community councils be permitted(7,682 votes) or to create community councils (15,775 votes).

In 2000 at the November 7 general election, the voters were asked to consider a proposed amendment to their Great Falls City Charter that would enable the City Commission to levy two additional mills in support of the Great Falls Public Library.
