In 1996 the county of Gallatin voted on three sub-options. The first was to nominate by district (9,778 votes) or districted elections (15,502 votes). The second was elect the surveyor (11,484 votes) or appoint the surveyor (13,928 votes). The third was to elect the coroner (10,332 votes) or appoint the coroner (15,364 votes).
Although all three sub-options were approved by the voters, the commission form of government was not adjusted, therefore the sub-options did not go into effect.
