In 2000, at the November 7 general election voters were asked whether they wished to adopt the alternative commission-manager form of government with self- government powers or retain the existing commission-manager form of government. The alternative form of government was adopted by a vote of 5,292 to 4,981.
In 2006 the city of Bozeman voted on one sub option choosing between electing the mayor (2,545) and not electing the mayor (9,546).
