Flathead County 4-H Shooting Sports
Flathead County 4-H Shooting Sports is a short term club/program. The shotgun program starts shooting the beginning of September and ends at the end of October. The archery, air rifle, air pistol, and small bore/pistol start shooting in November and end in February. The muzzle loading program starts the second weekend in March and ends the weekend after Mother's Day.
You must be enrolled in 4-H to participate in the shooting sports program. Enrollment dates are announced in the newsletter and through email. Please contact the MSU Extension Office with any 4-H Shooting Sports registration questions.

Fall Season (Sept-Oct 2026): Shotgun/Trap
Information for Initial registration for 2026 4-H Shotgun/Trap will be updated by the end of June 2026.
IMPORTANT: Registration does not guarantee a spot in the project. Spot availability is determined by the number of Certified, Active 4-H Shooting Sports Volunteers who sign up to help.
Winter Season (Nov 2026-Feb 2027): Air pistol/Air rifle/Archery/Hunting Skills
Initial registration for all 4-H Shooting Sports Winter Season disciplines (including Air pistol, Air rifle, Archery, and Hunting skills) will open on ZSuite at a date to be determined. We will have this web page updated with new registration information by mid-September 2026.
Important Notes
4-H Shooting Sports instructors will invite youth to participate in the Advanced and Precision Air Rifle projects. This invitation typically occurs in the form of a discussion between the youth, the youth's parent/guardian, and the 4-H Shooting Sports instructor.
4-H Shooting Sports instructors will invite youth to participate in the Advanced Air Pistol and Small Bore Pistol projects. This invitation typically occurs in the form of a discussion between the youth, the youth's parent/guardian, and the 4-H Shooting Sports instructor.
4-H youth who are participating the Flathead County 4-H Shooting Sports for their first year are limited to requesting one shooting discipline (Air Pistol, Air Rifle, or Archery).
Youth must be 9 years old (4-H age as of 1 October 2026) in order to participate in Flathead County 4-H Shooting sports Air pistol, Air rifle, Archery, and Hunting Skills projects.
Spring Season (March-May 2027): Muzzleloading
Registration for 4-H Shooting Sports Muzzleloading 2027 will open on ZSuite at a date that is yet to be determined.
- Youth must be at least 12 years old (4-H age as of the previous October 1st) and graduates of the Montana Hunter Safety course in order to participate in the Flathead County 4-H Shooting Sports muzzleloading project.
