Betsy Johnston

Betsy Johnston, Ed.D. is energized by capacity-building with individuals, teams, and organizations – through facilitation, training, and organizational development. For more than 30 years, Betsy has been transforming change with a wide range of audiences, including government entities, corporate groups, higher education institutions, schools, military units, and NGOs.  She holds a doctorate in adult and higher education, a master’s degree in clinical social work, and is certified as a mediator and a senior professional in human resources.

Betsy currently shares her passion for facilitation as a freelance contractor with UN Volunteers, the United States Institute of Peace, Action Learning, and the Middle East Partnership Initiative through peacebuilding, nonviolent conflict management, project management, civic education, and leadership development. She is the author of “Gaku’s Question: How Can Everyday People Create Peace? 108 Global Responses for Creating Peace Every Day.” Betsy thrives on adventure and travel, experiencing different cultures, and spicy food. 

At Montana State University, Betsy has served in the roles of Associate Director of the MSU Local Government Center, Professional Development and Training Manager, and as adjunct faculty for Leadership Foundations, Ethics in Public Service, Knowledge and Community, Post-Secondary Distance Education, and Resource and Program Management. Betsy currently teaches HLD 121US Leadership Foundations as an online, asynchronous course through Gallatin College.
