Dear Bobcat parent and family members,

With spring break next week and many of our students traveling, now is a great time to share some important safety and conduct information. I found the recommendations in this piece, "11 Spring Break Safety Tips for College Students" on the website Collegiate Parent particularly helpful if you'd like to pass it along. ;) Plus, I'd like to remind you about MSU's Code of Student Conduct, which your student is accountable to as a Bobcat even when they are away from campus.

Spring break also means we are just about two months from the end of the spring semester, so consider checking in with your student about how they're doing in their classes and to see if they need support. The team in the Allen Yarnell Center for Student Success (AYCSS) is available to connect students with resources and academic support.

Among the many AYCSS offerings are Success Advising, SmartyCats tutoring and Financial Education, all of which are free and confidential for students. AYCSS can also connect students with resources in the Math and Stat Center, Writing Center and others, so if your student is struggling, please remind them there are many places to find help.

If your student is coming home or remaining in Bozeman for spring break, it's the perfect time to get a jump on the summer job search. If they need help refreshing their résumé, they can schedule an appointment with a career coach online or find tips anytime on the AYCSS Résumé and Cover Letter Writing webpage. AYCSS also has a Career and Major Research webpage where your student can learn more about things they can do with their degree. On that page, they can also access O*NET Online to explore hundreds of occupations based on their goals and needs.

We began this message with student safety over spring break, and we'll end it with some information about safety here on our campus. The safety of our campus community is of the utmost importance to MSU. You can find relevant information in our Annual Security and Fire Safety Report, which also explains how we communicate with faculty, staff and students in an emergency. More information about the types of communications we send out is available on the MSU Alert website, and you can opt in to receive emergency notifications from MSU at any time.

Take care,
