Dear Bobcat parent and family members,

Happy 2024! Welcome to another semester as a part of our academic community at Montana State University. I want to extend a warm welcome to those of you with new students beginning classes next week at MSU. We're glad your student is here, and that you're there to help support them as well. I hope these communications can help you stay connected with our campus during your student's journey toward their college degree.

If your student is transferring to MSU this spring, I want to extend an extra helping hand to get them connected to campus. Stay tuned for more information about this in our next email.

If your student is returning, we welcome them (and you!) back. I hope you had wonderful holidays and were able to spend meaningful time with your student over their winter break. I hope all the members of our campus community are returning rested and ready for another great term.

As always, I encourage you to reply to these emails with your questions, comments or concerns. My colleagues and I are more than happy to provide information or connect you with the folks on our campus who can help. We love to hear from you!

With classes starting this coming Wednesday, here are a few reminders.

  • First, there is time if your student still needs to register for their spring semester classes. Students can add courses online until Jan. 23, and they can add with the approval from the instructor and their advisor until Jan. 30. They will need to talk with their advisor before they can register. They can learn about the process on our Advisor Info webpage, and the Registrar's website provides more information about registering and adding courses.
  • If your student has questions or is thinking about changing majors, the Academic Advising Center can help them with course selection and the degree progress.
  • Before the semester begins, we encourage you to review financial aid information with your student. Students can find financial aid requirements and award information through their MyInfo portal, and our Financial Aid Services director, James Broscheit, and his team are available to help you and your student understand your options. For more information, call their office at 406-994-2845 or email finaid@montana.edu. (Please contact the Financial Aid Services office together with your student to facilitate communication and understanding for everyone.)

We can't wait to welcome our students back to campus. It's going to be a great semester!

Take care,

P.S. Our uncharacteristically dry weather has finally turned, and snow has arrived in Bozeman! If your student is a skier or snowboarder, remind them that Bridger Bowl ski area operates a free bus service that stops at our Strand Union Building, providing a safe and reliable ride. Find more information on the Bridger Bowl website.
