Lewis Hall

Lewis Hall currently houses the Ecology and Microbiology & Cell Biology departments. Under the auspices of these two departments, it also houses the MSU Vertebrate Museum, Herbarium, Fish and Wildlife Management Program Center, Montana Cooperative Fishery Research Unit and the Medical Laboratory Science program. The Office of Research Compliance is now located here as well.

The building, built in 1923, is named for Meriwether Lewis, co-leader of the Lewis and Clark expedition, 1804-06. Just inside the south entrance door are two murals painted by MSU art students in 1942. The mural on the east wall shows prehistoric Montana. The mural on the west wall depicts the fight against rocky mountain spotted fever in Montana and is dedicated to two MSU students who died while studying the disease. On the 2nd and 4th floors are fish and wildlife display cases.

This building currently has no handicap access, but an elevator addition has been approved for the 2026-2027 fiscal year.
