Adding or Dropping a Class
Most students can add or drop classes through MyMSU and CatCourse Scheduler during the regular registration period.
Important: Adding or dropping a class after the regular deadline requires additional approval. Check the Add/Drop Schedule for current deadlines.
Before you start
- Check the deadline for adding or dropping your class.
- Adding a class? Contact the course instructor if instructor approval is required.
- Dropping a class? Contact your academic advisor.
- Check your financial aid and bill. Changing your enrollment can affect your financial aid and the amount you owe. Contact Student Accounts or the Office of Financial Aid Services with questions.
Days 1-5
You can generally add a class through MyMSU if there is a space and you meet the course requirements.
Days 6-10
You will need instructor approval
Steps:
- Find the instructor's contact information: Use the MSU Directory or Find the course in the Schedule of Classes.
- Email the instructor and request permission to join the class.
- If approved, the instructor submits and add request to the Registrar's Office through MyMSU.
- Watch your email. The Registrar's Office will notify you when the request has been processed.
Note: Instructor approval does not mean you are officially enrolled. Wait for confirmation from the Registrar's Office before assuming you have been added.
After the 10th Day
Adding a class after the 10th day is generally only possible because of an extraordinary circumstance.
