Dedicated to your success

Transitioning from high school to college is an exciting new adventure, but it can also be a little scary and intimidating. In the Jake Jabs College of Business & Entrepreneurship (Jabs), we are here to make that transition easier and have developed the CABLE Advantage with you in mind. Research shows that students who are well supported and who form strong connections to the campus community are more likely to graduate on time.

This program builds a community of students through a fun pre-college experience including whitewater rafting, a learning community that make it easy to make new friends, and on-going academic support like tutoring and workshops to support you throughout your first year.

Key Elements of the Program

  • Experience our CABLE Kickoff  by enjoying a Family Lunch, followed by a workshop filled with important information on how to be successful at MSU before classes begin!  Next, we'll get to know everyone with a fun day out on the Yellowstone as we take on whitewater rafting together!  See the full weekend schedule here.
  • Take classes with other CABLE students, which makes building friendships and organizing study groups a breeze. Your program advisor handles all of the scheduling on your behalf to ensure that you're in the correct "CABLE sections" - easy!
  • Earn scholarship money by engaging in activities designed to promote your success like the workshop at the CABLE Kickoff and meeting with your CABLE mentor throughout the semester.

Start off on the right foot

CABLE Advantage students earn scholarship money by reaching a few core pillars by the end of the semester:

1. Good academic standing with MSU.

2. Passing grade in your BGEN104 cohort class.

3. Attend CABLE Kickoff Weekend and workshop (or arrange alternative if you are in Orientation #4)

4. Register for your Spring semester classes with your advisor, Emily!

Max: $500/semester; total $1,000.

Learning Community Testimonials

"Being a part of a learning community was a tremendous help transitioning from high school to college; giving students a chance to connect by taking multiple of the same classes improved the chances of forming more substantial study groups. In addition, peer mentors were a great help; sitting down and meeting one-on-one with every student, putting on hikes and opportunities for the students to get to know each other was beneficial to my career as an MSU student.”
