Amanda Haab, the first MSU recipient of prestigious Astronaut Scholarship.

The Astronaut Scholarship Foundation awards scholarships to high-achieving students in STEM. 

In 1984, the six surviving astronauts of the Mercury 7 (Scott Carpenter, Gordon Cooper, John Glenn, Walter Schirra, Alan Shepard and Deke Slayton); Betty Grissom, the widow ofthe 7th astronaut of the Mercury 7 (Virgil “Gus” Grissom); William Douglas, M.D., the Project Mercury flight surgeon; and Henri Landwirth, an Orlando businessman,created the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation to ensure that the United Stateswould take the lead in technology and science. When awarding, they look for the best and brightest students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. 

This award is a life-long partnership with the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation that provides mentorship,networking with professionals, and professional development.

ASF has awarded over 790 scholars throughout 46 different universities. In 2023, Montana State University produced its first Astronaut Scholar. Meet our first MSU scholar, and learn more about their experience, below.
