Mathematics – B.S. in Mathematics, Minor
Students in the Mathematics program at Montana State start their journey with a core of mathematical analysis before embarking on coursework in abstract and linear algebra, as well as other classes that delve into subject matter that prepare students for potential employment as an analyst or computational specialist. The Mathematics program is flexible enough to accommodate students who are interested in industries such as business, government or scientific computing.
The Mathematics major at Montana State offers two additional Options Within the Major: Applied Mathematics and Statistics. Additionally, Mathematics can be taken as a minor.
Goldwater Scholars
Montana State is the Top 3 in the West, after Stanford and Cal Tech, in recipients

Directed Reading Program
The Directed Reading Program is a semester long, reading-based mentoring program for
undergraduate students that aims to enhance the mathematics and statistics community
at Montana State by exploring mathematical and statistics interests with a graduate
student mentor in a low-stress environment.
