The Family & Consumer Sciences Education option is designed for students who wish to become licensed to teach family & consumer sciences in grades 5-12.
Family & Consumer Sciences Education – B.S. in Human Development & Family Science, Family & Consumer Sciences Education Emphasis
Students in the Family & Consumer Sciences Education option in the Human Development & Family Science major at Montana State learn how to empower their students to manage the challenges of living and working in a diverse, global society by focusing on a variety of different subject areas connected to the family and consumer sciences. Such subjects include nutrition and foods, interior design, child and human development, financial literacy, clothing and textiles and more. Beyond Family & Consumer Sciences Education course, FCS Education students are encouraged to expand their professional opportunities by way of earning a teaching minor or gaining a certification as an Accredited Financial Counselor or Certified Family Life Educator.
The Human Development & Family Science major at Montana State offers two additional option within the major: Human Development & Family Sciences and Child Development. The Human Development & Family Science program also offers three additional minors: Human Development, Personal & Consumer Finance and Family & Consumer Sciences Education (Teaching).
